6 tools to shift your energy quickly
Have you ever felt so incredibly stuck in your own story that you feel trapped in your own head?
You can’t seem to get out of your own way. You spend the whole day, or even weeks and months allowing your thought process to get fixed on one particular event or story that is on repeat.
I’ve been there and it’s is debilitating.
It can take over your life, your relationships, your happiness, your job, your business, your ability to focus, and your ability to be a good parent. It’s like a virus, and what’s worse, we are consciously allowing this to happen.
It’s actually an addiction, and unless you take action to change it, these behaviours will ruin your life! - (yes, that's a massive call but it's true).
So how do you stop it?
First of all, you need to realise you are doing this. Awareness is key to overcoming and combatting a habit, then you need to take sustainable action quickly.
Research shows it takes at least 90 days to change a behaviour, mainly because the life span of a red blood cell ranges between 70 and 140 days. This means, if you want to change a habit for good, on a cellular level, you need to implement these changes consistently for at least 90 days.
The most effective way to do this is to;
- Get out in nature: Plants have been proven to have the capacity to communicate with each other, because they are living breathing biochemical organisms just like us. When we spend time in nature, it creates a steady dopamine drip in our brain, that leads to a cascade of events causing an increase in serotonin – our ‘feel good’ hormone. Nature is literally medicine. Start with a 30 minute walk, swim, bike or even just lay under a tree. Try to do it barefoot for an increased benefit!
- Move your body: You all know movement is medicine – it’s my moto and the backbone of my business name. It can be any type of movement. It doesn’t need to be structured, regimented or planned. It can be simply putting on your favourite playlist and dancing around your lounge room. Just move your body!
- Get creative: Creativity activates a completely different area of the brain compared to logic. Therefore, getting into a creative flow by making something, or cooking something will allow you to stimulate an entire new area of the brain and will shift your focus instantly.
- Connect with other humans: We are all craving connection, and since social media, we have literally reduced our opportunity to connect in person. Reach out to friends and family that you feel safe with in these moments, ask for help. Allow yourself to be seen and felt in whatever state you are, no filter. The only request I would make is don’t repeat your story! The moment you allow yourself to go back into the story, your body relives the moment again and again. Answer politely, 'I don’t feel like talking about that now, can we talk about you instead?' Cuddling and laughing with other people has been proven to increase dopamine in the brain – see a show, or attend a workshop. Go somewhere you are bound to enjoy and connect.
- Journal: releasing the thoughts on paper and burning it, is a really effective was to shift blockages in the body immediately. Don’t get caught up in the details, just let the words flow out on the page, it doesn’t need to be perfect. No one needs to read it. This is simply a process.
- Meditation and breathwork: these two techniques combined are the most effective way to life blockages and shift energy instantaneously. If you haven’t tried breathwork before I highly recommend attending a workshop first to learn some techniques prior to trying it at home. Remember meditation can also be done by walking. Meditation is simply about presence with self, and non-attachment to the ‘monkey’ mind. Whether that means lying down or sitting up, make yourself comfortable and start with a guided meditation, or binaural beats music to help with maintaining focus.
